Instructor Dr. Onur ÇELİK

Ali Shariati, a very important figure in Iranian political life, became the representative of a unique and idiosyncratic tradition of thought by blending Islamic thought with Marxist terminology and theories in his own time. In this context, Shariati, who attracts the attention of different disciplines from sociology to political science, has an important place in the Turkish political science literature. Ali Shariati, who had the opportunity to get to know Eastern and Western civilizations closely, is an important thinker who seeks solutions to the problems of his time in Iran, and adds a different perspective to Islamic literature in general.
While the 1979 Revolution in Iran occupied an important place in the Islamic geography, it also started a controversial process that has survived to the present day. The aim of this study is to determine the political views of Ali Shariati and to determine the effects of these views on the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
In this direction, Shariati stated that the reason for the backwardness of Islamic countries is due to the wrong practices of the governments and their use of religion for their own interests. Since religion has been detached from its essence, the struggle with the West has been inadequate and Western imitation has emerged. As a result, Shariati presented a recipe to Iran and Islamic countries by reinterpreting Islam as a return to essence. This recipe contains important propositions for Turkey as one of the important actors of the Islamic world.
